My turn!

If you ended here, it’s probably because Seth Apter sent you!
Some of you might know me already.
Most of you are certainly wondering why a tiny person like me, living in a tiny country like Belgium, having so little experience in art, was invited to be part of such a great book, alongside such amazing artists.
I don’t know. I am honored.

Let me introduce myself.

I’m 34 years old. I live in Belgium. I speak French.
I am a sixth-year fellow in gastroenterology. I’m trying to master the endoscopic skills required to diagnose and treat esophageal, stomach, duodenal and colonic diseases.
In my spare time, I paint.
Being so organized and irreproachable at the hospital gives me permission to get messy, to play and cross boundaries at my art desk.

My medium of choice is acrylic paint. I combine collage, acrylics and drawing media (crayons and markers).
Usually, I work in a journal. Sometimes on a canvas.
If you browse my work, you’ll notice my two favorite fields of work : my industrial scenes and my studies of lines, shapes and textures.
I’m not used to write long posts.
I prefer to show you what I’ve been up to.
There are phases where I paint and post everyday and phases where laundry, kids and work get in the way...
If you want to see the work of the other 29 "spotlight" artists, go buy the book :)

journaling in Beijing

Guess what? I'm visiting my father in Beijing!
Splendid city!

Confucius and his disciples met a woman weeping before a tomb. She said with a crying tone that 3 generations of her family were killed by tigers but she still was unwilling to move out of mountain area to be bullied by officials.
Confucius therefore sighed that "harsh government is even tougher than tigers".

little about the journal and the art supply

Last day in Thailand!
I'll spend friday on planes and be back in Belgium on saturday.
This is the journal I've worked in while traveling :
front cover
 back cover
I don't remember where I bought it. It was a long time ago and I've kept it for the day I would travel somewhere in Asia.
I've painted a lot in it but none of the spreads are finished. I want to work on them when I'll get back home. Then I'll show them to you.
I had a limited luggage weight so I couldn't bring every color of acrylic paint nor every pencil I wanted.
I'm used to travel with the Daler Rowney Caddy Box I bought at Paperchase in London about 5 years ago. I love it. It is very convenient. I never go on a trip without it. You never know when inspiration may strike.
Among the art supplies I didn't bring, there are 3 things I've missed so much : my pot of Golden white gesso, my pot of Golden fluid matte medium and my set square.
I thought the pages didn't need any preparation with gesso but they did. They always do!!!
I thought I would save weight by replacing my matte medium with that tiny Pritt glue pen you can see in the picture above. But I've missed the medium for whole other reasons than just gluing stuff : extending my acrylic colors and making fast image transfers.
Lesson learned.
