liste du vendredi : my new year's (re)solutions

11. économiser pour m'acheter un iPhone
12. graver mes propres tampons et mes propres stencils

By the way, did I tell you that I've set the alarm at 1:11 and 11:11 am? So that I won't forget to make a wish like I did last time. Does that sound neurotic? And if I tell you that I've set the time spaced by one minute between my alarm clock, my oven and my cell phone so that I get to make 3 wishes. Does that sound even more neurotic?

belly love

baby talk

I fell in love with belle’s short post the other day. She made a list (I know I’ve said it many many times but boy, I do loooooooove lists) of strange things she does since she became a mother. She has noticed that her voice becomes higher-pitched when she talks to her children. Well, it is not strange at all… It seems that our brain is programmed for that !

There is a great article about baby talk here.
Baby talk is also known as infant-directed speech (IDS). It’s all about using the same words we use in regular speech but with distinctive modifications that make the message clearer.
Moms do it. Dads do it. Kids do it. And people lacking experience with babies do it too !

It seems that babies are born with an unlearned preference for IDS. Many studies have showed that they pay more attention when adults speak to them that way.
IDS makes emotions and intentions more obvious.
It even seems that the quality of IDS can have an impact on the way babies learn !

So, we have lots of reasons to forget any inhibitions and let loose with the baby talk !

In that same post, Belle also said that when she feeds her children, she cannot help but open widely her mouth !
That maid me smile and I am sure that you do exactely the same when you put a coat of mascara on your eyelashes ! Try to do that with your mouth closed…

whimsical zoo

For this week's no frill prompt :

Well, yeah... Since my cat left us to go live with our neighbours, the only animals left in my zoo are M and her father. sigh...
The father didn't want to have his pictures posted and M is too young to argue.

liste du vendredi : I will never...

1. eat “andouillettes” again (trust me, you don’t want to know what it is)
2. read M’s nursery’s house rules (way too thick)
3. have a dog (I’m a cat person)
4. go bungy jumping (way too scared)
5. buy a Louis Vuitton bag (way too expensive and would rather make my own)
6. throw my garbage in nature (too eco-friendly)
7. calling the elevator by pushing both to go up AND to go down (please people, stop doing that!)
8. get used to Emanuelle Béart's or Meg Ryan's new lips (trust me, you don’t want to know what it is)

glad no matter what

I think everybody in the world of art journaling knows SARK and her fabulous books. My favorite is INSPIRATION SANDWICH that I bought a couple of years ago. It is one of my books that I can read over and over again. On page VII, I always shiver. She proposes to choose a number at random between 1 and 46, and then, to jump right to the proper chapter. If you read my last list up to the end, you know why I cannot do that :) sigh…
I recognize myself in her in those two activities : napping (p.17) (she is a "nap queen" and so am I) and building forts with blankets (p. 31)!

Well, her new book was released on the first day of NaNoJouMo (aka first of novembre) and she writes about it on her blog. Come and take a look here.
On that post, she asks us to share one thing in our life that is challenging or difficult… Without hesitation, I’d say that I feel torn between working as a physician and working as an artist… both take a lot of time… and time flies. But when a patient feels better or when someone is willing to pay for my art, I am just glad I took this challenge and remember that I need both to feel complete.

PHOTEX
